Ya ain't gonna foot yer own home, boy, cuz ya ain't gonna home yer own foot!

This is what i said in my sleep a few nights ago, according to my hubby. And yes, in a drunken cowboy accent. What is my unconscious mind capable of?? For real, if this is as good as i can come up with, I'm no sleeping genius! But at least i can entertain my husband in bed even while i'm sleeping:) Censor that, please.

Now that we've gotten off to a fun start, let's keep the energy going!

1. My husband's drawing skills, in one word, impeccable. Look at this startling likeness! Pretty good for an engineer, eh? This is a pic from our honeymoon. The drawing tablet is actually a wedding gift from Brookstone. It's called a Boogie Board and can be erased at the touch of a button. Pretty neato!

2. Home Decor: The top clock is for my husband. The bottom clock is for me. Or should it be the other way around so we can rub off on each other? Well, my cousin Tay got the "Whatever" clock for me, so i guess i need to claim it:)

Karis serving the bubbly with her sunhat on:)
D drinking champagne like a true man:)
3. Did you know Wichita has a Polo Club? It's true, and i went to a "match" with my hubbly and some friends. Did you know there are six periods in a polo match, and they are not called periods, but CHUKKERS? Yep, six chukkers. During halftime, they pick a pretty lady with a big hat from the audience (our friend did it:), have her pop open a bottle of champagne in the middle of the field, and we drink champagne while "Stomping the Divets"...and they reminded us to not stomp the mounds...that was horse manure. I can't believe horses can run and poop at the same time. Maybe humans can too. I guess i've come close before. ANYWAYS...go to a polo match. They are long, but go with some buddies and bask in the hot sun and the smell of horse. It's really fun. Really. Oh and don't forget to bring a sunhat...I was naked headed, unfortunately.
Rudy needed a refreshing cold towel after major frisbee time.

4. Just finished reading, "Sheet Music" by Dr. Kevin Leman. SUPER AMAZING BOOK, especially if you are married and want to keep the excitement alive in your marriage. Just like anything, duh, it takes work. But the rewards are exponential!

Hello i am a stud. See, proof.
Dan De Jong, Triple Jump record. What now.
5. Went on a road trip with my hubby last month! All the way to Sioux Center, Iowa, home of Dordt College. Yep. Infamous i know. Then up to Luverne Minnesota for his cousin's wedding! Looks like my hubbly was pretty hot stuff at the awesome college of Dordt. Funny story: At our rehearsal, I decided to run around like Phoebe does on "Friends" without telling anyone what i was doing. When i made one round about the sanctuary, i said, in between gasps of out of shapeness breath, "Picture me doing this tomorrow if you get nervous! Ok, your turn, babe!" So D decided to show us his triple jumping skills...and from then on, i realized i had married a sub-human. As i'm pretty sure he is part gazelle or frog. Hot stuff!

bustin' a move with the MIL!~
I am also pretty proud of my hubs- he is the only one in his family who dances! and, as you know, to be a part of the Hanning clan, dancing is a REQUIREMENT. We're working on loosening up the rest of his family...Dan dragged his mom onto the dance floor for the "Mother-son" dance. LOVE IT! GO DEB!
Part of the De Jong fam. Rachel was a bridesmaid. What a beauty!
Well, here's me signing off with one last charge...keep a notepad and pencil handy when you sleep at night...records of spousal sleep-talking are priceless:)

Taboo Initials

I showed my husband-to-be a design i had made for our "Save the Dates". It looked something like this:
S.T.D. for Daniel and Alyssa's Summer Wedding!!!
a           h         a
v           e         t
e                      e

It didn't fly.

But it reminded me of a similar instance when my best friend Kiley and I were training for a half-marathon to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Wichita. The program was called "Team in Training" and was often referred to as "T.N.T". Kiley said- "I don't get why they use the wrong letters. Why don't they just call it "T.I.T" like it's supposed to be?"

That, too, did not fly. It didn't even make it off the runway.

And while i am bashing on (in love and admiration) my oh-so-wonderful-in-every-way best friend, I must share another story...

When Kiley was having dinner with new fellow students on her first day of college in NYC (King's College), they were getting to know each other during the meal and it somehow came up that she had lived for 2 years in Japan and therefore, had experienced a lot of new raw seafood tastes and textures. When asked about raw Octopus, she said something like, "Well, yeah it's just such a weird slimy texture, especially when you're trying to chew the testicles." The mishap here, if you missed it, was the replacement of "tentacles" with something even more appalling (it's also in bold, if u missed it the second go-around). Luckily, her mom was there to save the day with I'm sure something really witty:)

I love you, Kiley Shae. And i guess i will see if you ever read my blog....;)

Any other fun "Taboo Initials" or Word Mishaps?

Maybe i will share some more at a later date. I don't think a day goes by where i don't laugh at a mishap. But the funniest ones, the classics, are ones you remember. And blog about. LOVE!

Peppermint= Strange Sensations!

Let's see...I am taking a shower this morning, dry off, and come to the issue of moisturizing my skin. Usually an easy task for many. However, most of the lotions i have tried have made my all-too-sensitive skin break out into weird spots and bumps. After my previous shower, I slathered on some Alba Cocoa Butter lotion from my recent trip to Target (where I bought ZERO percent of clothing items! See, I'm learning:), and that night, the bumps made an appearance. So i gave that little bottle to my fiance, who thinks he is too manly to wear lotion. I have tried to convince him of the great benefits of using lotion. No dry, flaky, itchy skin. No worried looks from those you meet on the road. in the office. wherever. It's just-humane, you know? I feel like thinking lotion is too girly is equivalent to not using toothpaste, cuz "real men" scrape their teeth with a whittled tree branch, or something...:) You get my point. He will, too. So after I got out of the shower, I saw my Bath and Body Works Sensual Amber lotion and my Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue lotion that i get with my perfume purchase, both of which have given me bumps.

It's snowing today, here in Ta-town, the great W, Wi-cheetah. So obviously going out to get a bottle of lotion was not sounding pleasurable. So i opened my drawer, and spotted the perfect bottle- Burt's Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion!!! It's all natural. Peppermint Bees somewhere in the world probably made it. It seemed like the answer to my problems.
45 minutes later, I am in the same spot that i was after applying generous amounts of Peppermint lotion over my entire-and i mean entire- body. Right in front of my mini heater, huddled in a miserable ball of freezing. You know that skin sensation you get from Hot/Cold gels and Ben-gay and such? Well, I think Peppermint lotion is worse than that. I'm sure it would feel refreshing on a pair of weary feet, but feeling as if I myself were lodged in a block of solid ice, with a strong scent of Peppermint, was, to put it lightly, HORRIFYING!!! It's like being freezing no matter how hot the room is, how many layers of clothing you are wearing, how many blowdryers are being blown over your body, because the sensation is ON YOUR SKIN.

For all of you reading this right now, you should feel fortunate. This knowledge will save you from a miserable nightmare of your own. If you are going to use Peppermint Lotion, remember two things: Do not put it on your face (which i didn't, Thank the Lord!), and Do NOT, i repeat, Do NOT, apply it to any area between your legs, under your belly-button, you're tracking by now, right?

That's it, that's my life-saving advice for the day. Heed my words, male and female and child, for they are wrought from experience, a road less traveled, and rightly so.

Oh and get this- the headliner for this product on Burtsbees.com says - "Makes your toes tingle". Uh huh. the toes and what's attached to them.

Don't Trust Me With a Razor or Rehearsal Dinner.

Let's begin by telling a tale of a wedding. (Of course, what else is on my mind?). My brother and sister-in-law's wedding to be precise. Those of you who know me may not be as surprised to hear this. But I performed a 6 minute long "Interpretive Dance" at my brother's wedding. Ok, not the wedding itself, but the rehearsal dinner. And this was not a 20 people rehearsal dinner. there were at least 200 people in the audience that night. My brother played the guitar and sang some song i can't even think of right now. And i danced. Made it up as i went along. No former practice or thought. What i didn't know was that the song was 6 minutes, and i ran out of moves by minute 3. It was excruciating yet fun. I was on my period, and i could tell i needed a tampon change. That, and i forgot to bring a bra (didn't need one for the dress i was wearing) for my actual dancing outfit. Yes, i was super skinny at that time and maybe a large A cup, but still...so many things could've gone wrong on that. I don't know how to get the actual footage on my computer yet, but once i do, maybe you will get a much-deserved treat. I don't know why it's much deserved. But it is:) In the meantime, allow me to share another experience with you. It goes along the lines of my craziness. Like i said, nothing new to those who have been around me more than once. maybe twice. It all started with my fiance wanting me to give him a "trim". He's had the shortest darn haircut all his life until i became the authority of the hair:) Actually, he just knew i loved shaggy hair, so he was willing to give it a try. but it had become a bit too shaggy, i admit. So last saturday night he brings his little kit over and hands me the electric razor. Let's just say there was an emergency haircut at church the next morning by a hairdresser who received a frantic call the night before.I had botched it. Yes, my wonderfully seasoned artistic hands completely botched my man's head. Don't think it could be as bad as i make it out to be? WEll, see for yourself:

And get this, my fiance's reaction was that he loved how we made a funny memory together and that we bonded because of it. He could care less about his hair. He just thought i was so cute for freaking out like i did. I was cry-laughing and convulsing. That is not on tape. Good thing. But check out my man in a backwards ballcap! Isn't he fine? He never wears them:( But he should.
